Serene Strength

Oud Sapphire is a serene homage to oud, one of the most alluring materials aromas in perfumery. Oud, Oudh, Agarwood, Aloeswood, Agarwood, Agar, Gaharu. All names used for one of the most sought-after materials in perfumery. Boadicea the Victorious is passionate about oud and the power and majesty it brings to fragrances. Nearly all the perfumes contain degrees of oud, depending on the depth and drama required.

Oud is a costly material, the unique odour created by a fungus Philophora parasitica, that only affects around one in fifteen trees in the Aquilaria genus. This triggers a response in the trees, transforming the heart of the wood into a fatty, dark, aromatic wood. This is chipped, steam distilled and treasured.

The smell of real oud is unforgettable, a pungent balsamic thunderous surround that can have facets of dark treacle, church smoke, aged rum, barrel aged sherry, vanilla pods and resinous pipe smoke. Burned for centuries in religious and cleansing rituals, oud has also been used for medicinal purposes as well, thescent is considered soothing for mind and body.

Oud Sapphire wraps the signature oud note in powdery ambrette, saffron and black pepper. Osmanthus exalts the oud over rich earthy resins, woods and iris. The notes glitter with seductive confidence. Oud has lovely fixative properties too, drawing out the exquisitely configured depths of what lies beneath with lingering effect.
